The Bodhi Tree ("tree of awakening") is a large sacred fig tree located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India. Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher who became known as the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment or buddhahood circa 500 BCE under this tree. The original Bodhi tree no longer exists today, so the term "bodhi tree" is applied to existing sacred fig trees.
Trees symbolise wisdom, stability, shelter, growth, and renewal. The ancient symbol of the Tree has also been found to represent physical and spiritual nourishment, transformation and liberation, union and fertility
